When we think of pregnancy and birth, these are not the words we want to think about. Yet, the reality is that, 1 in 4 pregnancies will end in a miscarriage, and 1 in 100 pregnancies will end in stillbirth.
Women and families facing these unimaginable circumstances deserve, and need, support. Adding on to the hormonal upheaval of pregnancy, labor, and delivery, is the range of emotions that come along with grief. It can be scary to face it all alone.
For this reason, one of our doulas, Kate, became a Certified Bereavement Doula through Stillbirthday in 2015. The training and certification associated with this program is specifically designed to teach skills and awareness about the ways to support families through a variety of impossibly difficult circumstances, from miscarriage, elective abortion, stillbirth, infancy loss, or the NICU.
