The Process

During our initial consultation, we will answer your questions, and get to know one another. We will introduce you to your primary doulas, and the team who will share an on-call schedule for you!

Once your contract is signed you will have a doula on-call for you 24/7, and can contact your primary doula team day or night by email, text, or phone. First, we’ll help you write a birth plan, using our exclusive birth planning worksheet, and help you communicate your desires with your entire team. Our Comfort Measures for Labor Workshops will all be available to you for free, so that you and your partner can begin to prepare for your labor.

At 32-36 weeks, we’ll have an in-home prenatal visit to prepare for your birth, and postpartum. And then, the big day will come! We like to keep in touch as you enter early labor, encouraging you and your partner. At your request, we will be by your side, either at your home or in the hospital.

We will work together with your partner, medical support, and anyone else on your team. Once your baby arrives, we will make sure you are settled and comfortable as a new family, and that your baby’s first feeding is initiated.

At 3-5 days postpartum, we will visit you at home to answer any questions you have about newborn care, soothing, and feeding. We will listen to your experiences, and point you to trusted professional referrals if necessary.

Sometimes the transition home is a little bit overwhelming, and so we offer longer postpartum shifts from 4-12 hours, including overnight, as well as professional lactation services from an IBCLC or CLC to help you settle in that first or second night at home if needed.

Tender Beginnings was wonderful! I was looking for a doula as I was wanting to try natural with my third child after 2 c-sections. Thanks to their guidance and support I was able to have a successful vba2c! Lisa was amazing! She was there with us all night and provided so much support and information that we would not have known. Truly blessed to have found them, fit us perfectly. They are all very calm and just make you feel so comfortable. Can’t thank them enough!! Changed our birth story from the past to a truly great one

Kate and Kacey are the best. We just had our first baby 8 weeks ago. It was important to me to feel confident in my pregnancy and labor and it was wonderful to have both Kate and Kacey as resources. Kate was there for my labor and met us at the hospital when my water broke. I loved hearing her voice... it helped me stay positive feel like I was in control. She had a comforting touch that wasn’t annoying, but instead helpful, and my husband never felt that she was “in the way”. She was supportive when my labor didn’t go quite as planned and I needed a C section. My OB/GYN still comments at every postpartum appointment that Kate was a great doula. After we went home from the hospital Kacey came over for a postpartum visit and helped me develop a plan for breastfeeding and pumping when I went back to work. She is very knowledgeable and relaxed and I felt more confident and organized after the meeting. It’s great to know I have them there for questions still. Overall Having a doula made me feel like my husband and I were part of the baby birthing dream team because they brought so much knowledge, positivity, support and calming presence to the whole experience. Thank you for everything!

Jenn and Kacey are absolutely amazing. Even though I planned an unmedicated birth, hours of back labor had me considering a c-section just to end the pain. Jenn and Kacey, however, were able to coach me through the contractions, and after 36 hours of labor, I made it to the epidural stage. They continued coaching me from there, and I was able to have the VBAC I so badly wanted. I recommend the doulas from Tender Beginnings to anyone having a baby, whether it’s their first or their tenth, whether they want medication or not. Jenn and Kacey allowed me to keep to my birthing plan as much as possible, and I am truly grateful to them.
